Navigating Recovery After Hurricane Beryl: Essential Resources for Montgomery County and The Woodlands

In the wake of Hurricane Beryl, communities across the Texas Gulf Coast are grappling with the aftermath of devastating winds, power outages, and flooding. As recovery efforts ramp up, various organizations are stepping in to provide crucial support and resources to those affected. Residents of Montgomery County and The Woodlands have several resources available to assist with recovery efforts, and we will guide you through the available resources, and the steps to take, ensuring you and your loved ones can access the support necessary to rebuild and recover during this challenging time

  1. Disaster Assistance and Assessment:

    • Residents who have had damage from the storm are encouraged to fill out the survey from Connective Texas so that they can assess the needs of the community, they also provide information on other free resources that are available.

  2. Montgomery County Food Bank:

    • The food bank is actively seeking volunteers and donations to help families who have been displaced or are facing food insecurity due to the hurricane

    • If you or your family are in need of food several pantries are open, please call ahead to confirm hours, here is the link

  3. Emergency Shelters and Cooling Centers:

    • Shelters and cooling centers have been opened across Montgomery County to provide temporary relief for those affected by the storm. These centers offer a safe place to stay, along with essential services. Hello Woodlands has a great list that is updated daily to provide information on where emergency and cooling centers can be found.

  4. Power Restoration Updates:

    • CenterPoint Energy has set up a tracker to provide residents with the latest information on power restoration efforts. Additionally, local officials are working to expedite the restoration process

  5. Cleanup Assistance:

    • The Woodlands Township is not responsible for storm debris pickup. Waste Management will not pick up your storm debris unless it complies with their curbside guidelines. Each county precinct will provide storm debris removal.

    • Harris County debris removal request form here.

    • Construction and non-vegetative debris will not be removed by the county. The homeowner/property owner is responsible for removing this type of debris.

  6. The Woodlands Township Requirements:

    • Tree Removal Application: If a tree or trees are leaning on an owner's lot and/or are considered hazardous to residents, owners will be allowed to remove them without having to apply. Please document any damaged or hazardous trees in case proof is needed.

    • Roofs: Residents still need to apply if replacing an entire roof unless the roof is being repaired with like-kind roofing, then there will be no need to apply. A roof application is required if repairing/replacing a roof that is different than the existing roof. These applications will be expedited.

    •  Fence Repairs and Replacement: If a fence on a homeowner's property is in disrepair, the homeowner is permitted to replace it without having to apply for approval, as long as the replacement fence meets the required height, style, and other criteria outlined in the neighborhood guidelines. However, if the entire fence needs to be replaced for pool barriers, an application and third-party inspection for code compliance are required. The pool barrier fence replacement application must be submitted by September 30, 2024.

    •  Compliance Deposits: Compliance deposits will be waived for those making repairs following the storm. Applications for minor repairs will be expedited to assist people trying to make emergency repairs. Third-party code inspections will still be required. Casualty/damage repairs that are considered major will be processed as normal to ensure repairs are done in compliance with all standards and code requirements.
